    Anyway, one of the most damning indictments of the Standing Army, is its cost. If you divide the Defence Budget by the number of service personnel, you will get a figure which represents the average annual cost of fielding one serviceman, including his equipment and support.

    Last time I looked, that average figure was £248,000 per annum.
