St Martin-in-the-Fields,
Trafalgar Square,

Chelsea Manning is 27 years old on this day. Formerly known as Bradley, she is the US soldier who leaked hundreds of thousands of documents to Wikileaks exposing the true nature of modern warfare. Imprisoned in 2010 and held for months under torturous conditions, she was sentenced to 35 years imprisonment in August 2013.

Please join with Veterans For Peace and other organisations as we hold a silent vigil for Chelsea on her birthday.

Chelsea Birthday Vigil

  1. Garry says:

It seems odd that those who question official versions of world events (the assassinations of JFK, MLK, RFK, 9/11) in the face of so much contradictory evidence for alternatives, are branded idiots or unpatriotic.

It seems strange, too, that those who inform the wold to the appalling acts, such as Chelsea did, are branded traitors, and threats to national security instead of the respective opposites.

I liken it to times of serious peril, like Hitler blaming the Jews for the economic deckle of Germany, or the attention that is focused on immigration or benefit cheats and not on the real corruptors of economies, bankers and the globalized financial institutions.

I was unsure of what I felt about those who leaked sensitive or secret information. I am still unsure as to why a low ranking person like Chelsea had access to so much sensitive information in the first place and was permitted to leak it in this modern day version of the Pentagon Papers. But when you see the things that have been leaked and made public, it`s hard not have sympathy and praise for people like Chelsea and nothing but disgust for all involved in such actions.

She did all these things not for infamy, financial gain or to subvert national security,,,,but only out of humanist actions based on what is right and what is wrong. How can anybody fault her?

    Happy birthday to you, Chelsea.

    Garry H

  2. I propose that Veterans For Peace should initiate Awards for Heroism, to be made to REAL Heroes, e.g. Chelsea Manning, Edward Snowden, the Viet Nam ‘Draft Dodgers’ & the like.
